University of Edinburgh, School of Engineering and Electronics, Institute for Energy Systems, Lecturer in Electrical Engineering
Mueller has been a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering within the Institute for Energy Systems, in the School of Engineering and Electronics since January 2004. He previously held a lectureship in the School of Engineering at the University of Durham for 6 years. He was awarded a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cambridge. His PhD research was concerned with the design and modelling of induction machines, supervised by Professor Steve Williamson, now at University of Manchester.During his Phd studies he gained an interest in renewable energy systems, and in particular the design of novel electrical generation systems for wind, wave and tidal current energy converters. Whilst at Durham he developed novel linear electrical generators for direct drive wave energy devices, and worked on low speed rotary generators for direct drive wind energy converters. This work was funded by EPSRC.Since arriving at Edinburgh his work on permanent magnet machines has evolved to the development of a novel permanent magnet machine topology suitable for both rotary and linear machines. This project has recently attracted funding from Scottish Enterprise under the Proof of Concept Programme. In collaboration with Dr. Ewen Macpherson he am establishing an electrical machines and drives test facility at Edinburgh for both rotary and linear machines.
